Manufacturing

Manufacturing in its basic form is the use of machines, tools and labour to produce goods for use or sale. Raw materials are transformed into finished goods on a large scale. It encompasses many functions and covers a variety of roles from purchasing to quality control. The decisions you make about which materials and which processes to use and the people who advise on and implement these factors ultimately affect your final commodity. Factors such as consumables for the manufacturing equipment, the amount of scrap produced, the speed of the process, the energy required, and so on, all need to be considered in order to make a sensible decision about the best way of making the final product.
